VINYL SATURDAY BRIDPORT RECORD COLLECTOR FAIR OF THE YEAR 2009
Vinyl Saturday Bridport 21st February
The second Vinyl Saturday in Bridport last Saturday, with record fairs at The Ropemakers Pub and The Electric Palace went extremely well, bringing many hundreds of record collectors to the Town.
Again the event had 50% of the sellers from local people selling their records, plus dealers from the South West, London and Portsmouth.
The record buyers loved the idea of record fairs, charity shops and market stalls all offering records and cds for sale. Bridport is the first Town in Europe to run an event that combines fairs, shops and market stalls. This has impressed a worldwide magazine Record Collector who are writing an editorial in March / April issue about Vinyl Saturday Bridport. The Western Gazette also sent a Reporter to write up the day and the resurgence of interest in record buying.
A number of the visitors had stayed the weekend and all used the local cafes and pubs for lunch supporting the local tourist economy.
The next Vinyl Saturday Bridport May 16th is expected to bring even more record collectors to the town as its popularity grows.
PRESS RELEASE BRIDPORT NEXT VINYL SATURDAY 21st FEB 09
Following on the success of the first Vinyl Saturday in Bridport town centre, the Vinyl Saturday team have set up 4 dates in 2009 and aim to attract even more fans of vinyl records from across the South West.
The first Vinyl Saturday held on 15th November 2008 was deemed a great first event by those attending, all were very impressed by the number of shops in the town providing themed window displays to promote the day and the support from both market traders and the town council.
An additional attraction was renowned DJ James Baker and guests providing a musical groove in the town square. Other music attractions will definitely feature in future Vinyl Saturdays.
Bridport is the first town in the UK to run an event that combines both a record fair and the fun of searching many shops and street market stalls for records. This first Vinyl Saturday certainly provided excitement for collectors with rare records being unearthed.
The success of the day could also be judged by the fact that all the shops, street market stalls and record fair stall holders have already agreed to participate in the next Vinyl Saturday 21st February 2009.
The next Vinyl Saturday will also see the record fair expanded by spreading it across 2 town centre venues, The Ropemakers Pub and The Electric Palace, will aim to offer local people the opportunity to sell their collections alongside established sellers. Additionally it is believed more shops and Saturday market stall holders will take advantage of the day by offering records, they collect over coming months, for sale.
Future Vinyl Saturdays will support sellers of records by advertising on a larger scale in both national and local media, plus additional larger signage around the town to ensure the thousands who reguarly attend the Saturday Street Market are aware of the event.
The Vinyl Saturday team extend their thanks for the support from the Town Council, the shops, street market traders and the many who attended.

The recent resurgence in Record Collecting has certainly been noted in Bridport, West Dorset where a “Vinyl Saturday “ is being organized across the town on Saturday 15th November 2008
Bridport Town Council is probably the first council in the UK to support a themed day giving Record Collectors the opportunity to browse and buy interesting LPs and 45rpm singles across a range of shops and market stalls.
The town which has a couple of specialist Record Collector stalls on the Saturday Market has asked the other market holders to add any records they have to the usual collectables they have on sale.
Whilst the Saturday Market is weather dependant, Record Collectors will still have a small Record Fair in The Ropemakers to visit along with the growing number of shops that sell secondhand records amongst their other goods.
A number of Bridport Charity shops are also participating in “Vinyl Saturday”, with West Dorset Mencap and Oxfam shops benefiting from donations given to a DJ Sounds set ( weather permitting) behind the Town Hall in Buckydoo Square and in front of the Arts Centre.
Bridport and the surrounding area has many attractions for the visitor, as well as being the “Gateway To The Jurassic Coast” so “Vinyl Saturday” will provide much for families to do, whilst their Record Collecting partner is searching the vinyl records on offer around the town.
The Bridport sellers of records have all combined to advertise the “Vinyl Saturday” nationally in both Record Collector Magazine and the local regional press. The response to the event has been very positive and 4 dates have already been agreed for more Vinyl Saturdays Bridport in 2009.
